NFL Betting – Week 1 Betting Lines

NFL Betting – Week 1 Betting Lines After months of turmoil, Tom Brady will suit up and play in Thursday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers – the first game of the 2015 NFL Regular Season. There are some stars that will not see the field due to suspension, however, as New England’s LeGarrette Bount and Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell and Martavis Bryant are all suspended for this contest.

New England was listed as a three-point home favorite for this game throughout the NFL Preseason when Brady’s playing status was in serious jeopardy. After that suspension was lifted, the Pats lined jumped to -7. NFL bettors quickly jumped on that line value, however, and New England is now down to a 6.5-point choice.

That is only one of a handful of intriguing games this weekend. Quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston were under the microscope this NFL Preseason as the two highly-drafted quarterbacks. We won’t have to wait long to see them share a football field as the Titans visit the Bucs this Sunday. Tampa Bay is a three-point favorite thanks to home field advantage, and this line implies these teams would be a pick ‘em if played on a neutral field.

The Green Bay Packers are the biggest favorite on the board as they visit the Chicago Bears. Apparently this online sportsbook doesn’t mind having the Packers lay a big number despite losing All-Pro wide receiver Jordy Nelson. Green Bay beat Chicago by 21 and 41 points last year, easily covering the number in both victories.

The game that we are most excited to watch is the first of two Monday Night Football games when Philadelphia visits Atlanta. This game promises to be a shootout, with the Eagles and Atlanta both employing powerful, up-tempo offenses and suspect defensive units. Philly is a three-point road favorite, and this game has the highest posted total of the NFL’s Week 1 action with a 55.5-point number.

There are eight home underdogs this week, including both of the Monday Night Football hosts. We mentioned the Eagles being a three-point choice at Atlanta, and the late game has San Francisco giving 2.5 points at home against Minnesota. It will be interesting to see how Adrian Peterson looks after the mess of last season, and San Francisco also has a new look in the backfield as Carlos Hyde replaces Frank Gore as the main focus of the offense.

We’ll be back next week to break down some of the key NFL games for Week 2.

Browns suspend OL coach Andy Moeller

Coach Moeller Suspended from the Browns

Browns suspend OL coach Andy MoellerOffensive line coach of the Cleveland Browns, Andy Moeller has been placed on suspension indefinitely due to an accident that happened over the weekend.

The news was announced today after the team’s spokesman read that”Browns offensive line coach Andy Moeller has been suspended indefinitely by the team effective immediately. Over the weekend, Andy was involved in an incident, involving allegations that we take very seriously. We have followed our internal protocol, determining that right now it is best for the team and for Andy to take time away from the organization to focus on his personal matters. We are going to respect the process of investigation on this personal matter and will have no further comment at this time.”

Even though nothing was spoken about alcohol being involved. Many people in the online sportsbook industry believe that it is related to an alcohol incident since this is not the first time that Moeller has had problems in his coaching career due to alcohol.

During his time with the Baltimore Ravens where he held the same position, Moeller had been suspended after he had been found guilty of a DUI after his third alcohol-related arrest in 2011.

Mike Pettine, the head coach of the Browns did not expend on the matter but did state that George DeLeone, the assistant offensive line coach assisted by coach Kurt Roper would take over the his duties.

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 4 Lines Posted

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 4 Lines Posted After showing a nice profit with a 19-11 ATS effort over the first two week of the NFL Preseason, home favorites crashed back down to Earth last week, going 4-10 against the spread. Last week was the official dress rehearsal for most teams, with starters playing a full half and into the third quarter on most teams (Green Bay being a notable exception). This week, the starters won’t see much action, if any, and it’s the backups turn to get meaningful reps and state their case for making the roster.

While many who bet on football prefer not to wager on the NFL Preseason, and especially the final week of the NFL Preseason, there is still some great NFL betting opportunities on the board this week if you know where to look.

Five teams enter this final week of NFL Preseason action unbeaten. Two of them, Minnesota and Philadelphia, aren’t much of a surprise. The Vikings went 4-0 last preseason, and including this year they are a perfect 8-0 straight up and 7-1 against the pointspread. Philadelphia led the league in preseason scoring last year, and are on pace to repeat that performance after averaging 38.3 ppg this August.

The other three teams going for a perfect 4-0 preseason are Denver, Kansas City, and Washington. Denver is the big surprise given the history of preseason wins and losses on Peyton Manning teams. Washington has been especially strong on defense, allowing 45, 46, and 55 yards rushing while also holding all three opponents to less than 200 yards through the air.

Kansas City has been the surprise team in terms of dominance, winning by nearly two touchdowns per game and putting up great numbers on both sides of the ball. The Redskins are one of the biggest favorites on the board this Thursday, laying 4.5 points at home against Jacksonville.
Two teams are looking to notch their first win of the NFL Preseason – Dallas and St. Louis. Losing in August is nothing new for the Cowboys, as they went 0-4 last preseason and have now lost eight straight NFL Preseason games dating back to 2013. St. Louis faces the aforementioned Chiefs, so it will be a tough task for them to avoid a 0-4 showing.

NFL head coaches will be releasing their expected player rotations in the next few days, so pick your spots and get ready for the “real” NFL season starting next Thursday with the big Steelers vs. Patriots showdown!

Panthers’ Wide Receiver Kelvin Benjamin Out for the Year

Panthers’ Wide Receiver Kelvin Benjamin Out for the Year

Panthers’ Wide Receiver Kelvin Benjamin Out for the YearThe Carolina Panthers have been one of the few teams in the NFL that boasted 2 or less player injuries but this all changed yesterday when Kelvin Benjamin injured himself during practice on Wednesday morning.

The MRI results just came back and it’s bad news for the Panthers as Benjamin will need surgery for a torn left ACL that will take him out for the rest of the season.

Benjamin who is a second-year wide receiver was a former Florida State star athlete who was drafted by the Panthers in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was ranked as the No. 8 wide receiver and the No. 60 overall player nationally in his class during the 2014 NFL draft.

The 6 feet 5 inches, 240 pounds Benjamin was often compared to players like Alshon Jeffrey for his size, speed, physicality and high pointing abilities. Last season, he played very well as a rookie, beating the NFL’s stingiest cornerbacks for 73 passes for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns

“Obviously, we feel awful for Kelvin,” general manager Dave Gettleman said in a statement released by the team. “He’s worked tremendously hard to put himself in a position to have a strong year. We’re confident he will attack his surgery and rehab with the same determination he has met all challenges before.”

Benjamin being out of for the season will greatly affect quarterback Cam Newton’s offense and many a sportsbook are currently adjusting their Super Bowl futures odds. According to most sources, Benjamin is one of the five most valuable players on the roster.

It is still too early to count the Panthers out of the running but the loss of Benjamin will limit their win options.

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 2 Lines Posted

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 2 Lines Posted

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 2 Lines Posted Home favorites ruled the first full week of the NFL postseason, posting a profitable 10-4 record against the pointspread. How will home favorites fare this week? Here we break down the NFL Preseason betting lines for Week 2.

We’ll start with Minnesota, who after going a perfect 4-0 straight up last August under new head coach Mike Zimmer (3-1 against the pointspread) is off to a perfect 2-0 straight up and ATS start this year. The Vikings beat Pittsburgh by 11 points in the Hall of Fame Game, they beat Tampa Bay by 10 points last week. It’s no surprise the Vikings are the biggest favorite on the board this week, laying 5 points at home against the Oakland Raiders.

That is just one of three games that features an NFL betting line of more than three points. Philadelphia is a 3.5-point home choice against Baltimore after the Eagles crushed the Indianapolis Colts 36-10. Houston is a 3.5-point home favorite against Denver, as the Texans starting quarterback battle of Mallet vs. Hoyer resulted in both players looking great in their preseason opener. Mallet will get the start this week.

The Eagles matchup also features the highest over/under line of the week. Last year Philly went over the total in all four of their NFL Preseason games, and went over the total last week in their win vs. the Colts. This week, the posted total is listed at 44.5 points, and even with another good showing by their offense, NFL bettors will need the Ravens to reach the end zone a few times to send that game over.

There is only one road team listed as the favorite this week, and that is the Atlanta Falcons as they are small one-point chalk at New York against the Jets. The Jets arguably played worse than anyone in the league last week, finishing with a paltry 123 yards of total offense – far less than they allowed the Detroit Lions to reach in rushing (193) and passing (235) separately.
Bet on Sports at CRsportsBet.ag

The NFL Week 2 line that sticks out to us is the Colts being a three-point home favorite against Chicago. Indianapolis was one of two teams to go win-less last August, and based on their 36-10 trouncing this past Sunday at Philadelphia, we’re not sure they are deserving of that respect.

We’ll be back next week to discuss the NFL Betting Lines for the third full week of the preseason.

2015 NFL Preseason Player Injuries

NFL Preseason Games Wreck Havoc on Player Injuries

2015 NFL Preseason Player InjuriesThe purpose of the NFL preseason games was that it allowed players to get some much needed practice to get back into the game while at the same time test and toughen up the rookies.  Today, the purpose of the NFL preseason games are not so much for the team since they now have more mini-camps available to keep them in shape during the off-season.

Some my argue that preseason games are for the fans, for the online sportsbooks who are out to make an early buck on the NFL and for the owners to make more money but even if that is the case, there is no reason for a coach to risk playing hard in games that do not have any bearing on the NFL team standings.

So far, there has been quite a few preseason injuries leaving many teams scratching their heads as to how they will play the regular NFL season.

Here are some of the more notable preseason injuries starting with tight end, Niles Paul was one of the first preseason victim when on August 13, 2015 during a match-up against the Browns, Paul had to be carted off the field after an awkward fall from a block and will now miss the rest of the season due to an ankle fracture dislocation.

That same Thursday night, the Chargers had a run of bad luck when guard Johnnie Tourtman broke his arm and Tourek Williams for the chargers broke his foot during the same game

So far, the Jacksonville Jaguars have only sustained one injury when Julius Thomas of the Jaguars fractured his hand against Pittsburgh.

The New York Giants have also had their share so far of preseason injuries when Rookie safety, Landon Collins exited the game with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee that will probably take him out for 3-4 weeks.

Write us a comment on how these injuries will affect your NFL betting season below!

NFL Preseason Betting – What to Look For

NFL Preseason Betting – What to Look For

NFL Preseason Betting – What to Look For The best way to gauge football teams going forward is to watch them play. When professional football bettors watch games, they don’t look at specific plays so much overall tendencies to give them an edge on whether to back them or fade them going forward.

This past Sunday night, the Minnesota Vikings beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 14-3 in the Hall of Fame Game to open the 2015 NFL Preseason. Both teams left points on the board, with the Steelers missing a sure touchdown on fourth-and-goal and the Vikings passing on an easy field goal attempt in the first quarter, plus missing a makeable field goal later on.

But in a general sense, you could see by watching the game that Minnesota was putting a heavier emphasis on the victory than Pittsburgh was.

Often times NFL teams won’t go far into their playbook, as they want to keep their more complicated plays off of film and save those plays and sets for the regular season. Minnesota threw that game plan out the window, especially on the defensive side of the ball and pressured Pittsburgh with a number of blitzes from all over the field. That is a perfect example of what professional NFL bettors want to see – an in-game tactic that isn’t often used.

Specific plays can also be helpful going forward. Minnesota had a touchdown set up by a long punt return – not something they will be able to rely on every game they play. And the Vikings were also beat a number of times in the secondary – sometimes being bailed out by Landry Jones unable to put the ball where it should have been. It’s not a surprise that Pittsburgh struggled early given the amount of starters the Steelers didn’t put on the field, but seeing Jones struggle in the second half against backups is certainly telling.

These plays can be used to judge Minnesota’s secondary as being susceptible to competent passing offenses going forward in the preseason, and looking to fade Pittsburgh if Jones is going to get the bulk of the playing time again.

It’s too hard to judge teams based on total rushing and passing offensive stats in the preseason as the quality of players on the field typically change from game-to-game. But by watching the games we can find matchup advantages and apply them in theory in the games upcoming.

Remember, that most online sportsbook don’t often have favorites of more than 3 points in the NFL Preseason, and picking spots where a line is not indicative of how the teams truly matchup can lead to a number of great wagering opportunities.

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 1 Lines Posted

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 1 Lines Posted

NFL Preseason Betting – Week 1 Lines Posted After a perfect 4-0 NFL Preseason effort last year, the Minnesota Vikings took care of business against this past Sunday night in beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 14-3 – easily covering the pointspread as a 3-point favorite – to kick off the 2015 NFL Preseason.

Every team sees action this week, with games being played from Thursday through Sunday. The lines for all 16 games are already posted at www.crsportsbet.ag and here we’ll take a look at some of the marquee matchups.

There are six games on Thursday’s card, including last year’s Super Bowl winner New England hosting Green Bay. No word yet on if Tom Brady will see the field, as he has a court-ordered settlement hearing the day prior (NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will also be there) in New York. The Pats are a three-point home favorite.

After that poor effort on Sunday night, the Steelers get a chance to redeem themselves on Friday when they travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars. Pittsburgh has now lost eight of their last nine preseason games dating back to the 2013 season, but are listed as a pick ‘em in this contest.

Backing new head coaches is a popular NFL Preseason betting strategy, and there are seven new head coaches this season. Atlanta, Buffalo, Chicago, Denver, NY Jets, Oakland, and San Francisco are the teams to circle if this is your NFL Preseason betting strategy. Some of those teams are favorites and some are underdogs, but none of those seven teams are favored by more than three points.

The Vikings are one of the few teams listed as a favorite of more than three points when they host Tampa Bay on Saturday. Minnesota is now a perfect 5-0 under head coach Mike Zimmer in these early NFL Preseason games, and as a 3.5-point favorite they are just one of three teams favored by more than a field goal.

The other two teams favored by more than three points are Seattle, who is laying 4.5 points against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in a rematch of the 2014 Super Bowl, and the Philadelphia Eagles are a 4-point choice at home against a Colts team that didn’t win a preseason game at all last season.

Good luck this weekend, and we’ll be back next week to look at the next group of NFL Preseason lines.

2015 AFC Conference Championship Futures

2015 AFC Conference Championship Futures

2015 AFC Conference Championship FuturesWhile the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys are the two favorites to win the Super Bowl at the online sportsbook, here we’ll review the odds to win the 2015 AFC Conference Championship.

The top two teams to come out of the AFC are the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. Curiously, Indy has a slight edge over the Pats to claim the AFC crown, with a Colts trip to the Super Bowl earning a +320 payout and the Pats returning a +330 payday. However, New England has a better chance to win the Super Bowl in the eyes of the online sportsbooks, having a 7:1 payout while the Colts are 8:1 odds to win it all.

Obviously, the news of Tom Brady’s suspension and all the drama associated with Deflategate has put a damper on the start of New England’s season. The Pats opened as a 7-point favorite in their Thursday Night season opener against Pittsburgh, and the online sportsbooks that are even taking action on the game have the Pats all the way down to a 2.5-point choice.

The Colts won 11 games last year, and have little competition in the weak AFC South. Last year there were just four teams that finished with 3 or fewer victories, and two of those four teams reside in this conference (Jacksonville and Tennessee). With four combined games against those two clubs, the Colts schedule is kind and they are almost assuredly going to win the division barring any injuries.

The Pats have a bit of a tougher road ahead – especially with the distinct possibility of not having Tom Brady for the first four games of the season. However, after they get Brady back we wouldn’t want to bet against the Patriots playing with something to prove.

Denver is next on the list to come out of the AFC with a 5:1 payout. Peyton Manning is back, and he’ll have a new head coach and a revamped offensive line. Not sure how much Manning has left in the tank, and if Manning goes down with an injury then the Broncos are doomed. Not out of the realm of possibility for Denver to reach the Super Bowl, but we don’t like the risk-reward here.
Bet on Sports at CRsportsBet.ag
Baltimore is the final team with odds less than 10:1, paying out at +900 to win the conference. Not much bad to say about the Ravens other than they reside in an extremely competitive AFC North where we could honestly see the Ravens, Bengals, or Steelers finishing on top of the standings. 9:1 is a pretty good payout, but the Pats and Colts sure look like the safer NFL Futures bet.

We’ll be back next week with a look at the NFC Conference Championship betting odds.

2015 NFL Hall of Fame Game Betting Preview

2015 NFL Hall of Fame Game Betting Preview

2015 NFL Hall of Fame Game Betting Preview Two teams with playoff aspirations kick off the 2015 NFL Football season on Sunday night from Canton, OH in the Hall of Fame Game. The Minnesota Vikings reacquired the services of running back Adrian Peterson, and with a revamped passing game behind young Teddy Bridgewater they look to improve on last year’s 7-win campaign.

Pittsburgh finished atop the AFC North last year with an 11-5 mark, but fell in the Wild Card round against fellow division mate Baltimore. A consistent rushing attack led by Le’Veon Bell helped the Steelers regain their identity which was lost in the 2013 season, and while they’ll miss him for two games they are still expected to be a major player in the AFC.

Online sportsbook CRSportsBet.ag gives both of these teams a shot at making the playoffs, with Minnesota pegged at a season win over/under at 7.5 wins and the Steelers expected to do one game better at 8.5 wins.

For this first preseason matchup, Minnesota is listed as a 2.5-point betting favorite in the Hall of Fame Game. Pittsburgh is generally regarded as the better team, but in the preseason the strength of both teams’ starters doesn’t mean much.

Pittsburgh went 1-3 last preseason and lost all four of their August tilts in 2013. Some head coaches have tendencies on how they approach these meaningless contests, and Mike Tomlin clearly hasn’t put much stock into win/loss results.

The Vikings went 3-1 last August under head coach Mike Tice, outscoring those four teams by an average of 10 ppg. Not sure the Vikings defense can match the 12.2 ppg allowed last August, but they certainly played with a mentality not seen throughout the league.

Bet on Sports at CRsportsBet.ag

Three of the last four Hall of Fame Games have seen final scores of less than 30 points – not that surprising considering the small amount of playing time the starters receive. Given Minnesota’s defensive mentality of last August, playing Under the posted total of 35 points should be considered.

We’ll be back next week to break down some of the marquee games of the first full week of NFL Preseason betting action.
