The German rider started the day with a single second deficit to C. Froome by only 1 second in the general classification. Now with the win on the cobblestones and dusty roads in the north of France, Martin will begin the 5th stage wearing the yellow jersey.

Martin actually launched a late attack after passing the last stretch of cobblestone roadway, and riding the bike of a team mate, was able to stay ahead of the pack as he gave it his all in the final run, and was able to beat the pursuing cycling sprinters by just a few seconds in this stage 4.

Remember that on Monday the cyclers had a big crash, and 1 biker had a trip to the hospital, and it was confirmed later on Monday that he would not be able to ride for stage 4 on Tuesday.

With the race just 1 hour old and reporting of light rain and some dangerous crosswinds that could hit the cobblestone roads awaiting the pack, the race pace was stepped up to a very fast pace. It was the Sky team that pushed the pace.

Then came the first section of cobblestone roadway and thankful without an incidents, and that left only 6 more sections of the same cobblestone paths left in the race, while the teams and pack began to prepare for the spring. The top honors for the lead group was taken by T. De Gendt, while M. Cavendish won the sprint for the tack and taking points away from A. Greipel and Sagan for the sprinters.

Now the 2nd section of cobblestone roadway was just a few kilometers away, and the riders were no facing the threat of thunderstorms, and the pack seemed to be preparing for another day of possible crashes. The 1st to crash was D. Martin and that happened quickly, and the Sky team picked up the tempo and took control of that 2nd cobblestone section, and then the sun broke up, diminishing the threats of thunderstorms.

In the next sector of the race, one of the favorites, A. Kristoff had a tire puncture that ended his hope of winning the stage. The general classification favorites of Cavendish and Sagan were able to in this section to position themselves very well preparing for the unexpected.

Incredibly the 1st peloton were able to stick together in the cobblestone sections of roadways, which did not take place in last year’s race. Then in the final stretch surfaced the 1st attacks as V. Nibali, Froome, Degenkolb and Stybar joined the pact that was made up of some 8 riders in the race. This group then seemed to fall apart as many riders to move forward from the back of the pack.

For those thinking about placing a bet at an online sportsbook and are into the 2015 Tour de France, you must know at this point of the race the German Martin with just 3 kilometers to the finish, was thrilled with his chances of winning the yellow jersey, so the time trial expert, stepped up his pace and won this 4th stage and the yellow jersey at the same time.
